Who are Brave Spirits? They are dogs who are fighting or have fought canine cancer with the loving help of their guardians. The 2005 Brave Spirits calendar featured dogs with osteosarcoma and was a great success in bringing and inspiration to caretakers of cancer-dogs and dog guardians. The calendar was inspired by many brave cancer-dogs and my beloved Lucy .... the dog with the heart of a lion. Lucy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on June 11th, 2004 and, with a strong spirit, lived with cancer for almost one year post diagnosis. She was peacefully released at home on Saturday, May 14th, 2005. The 2008 Brave Spirits calendar is now available for a donation through the Magic Bullet Fund and features 17 dogs with various types of cancer. A wealth of information is provided about each cancer type under the direction of Veterinary Oncologist Alice Villalobos, DVM. On behalf of all the dogs with cancer featured in the calendars and the people caring for them; on behalf of the thousands of others not shown in the calendars, I thank you for your generosity. The Magic Bullet Fund was founded by Laurie Kaplan, author of Help Your Dog Fight Cancer. Through this fund, many cancer-dogs whose caretakers cannot afford to provide treatment will be given treatment and a fighting chance to survive. |

| Cancer in animals (just as in humans) is rising drastically. Approximately 70 different types of canine cancer have been discovered. Did you know that cancer is the number one cause of death in dogs over 10 years old? Dogs as young as 6 months of age have been diagnosed with cancer and nearly half of all companion animals will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. |

| Copies of the 2005 Brave Spirits calendar were donated to the hospital rooms of the pediatric cancer wards at City of Hope in Duarte,California where my best friend Ian was treated for lymphoma and MD Anderson in Houston, Texas where my good friend Chris was treated for rhabdomyosarcoma. It is my hope that children with cancer, especially those who suffer from osteosarcoma, a primarily pediatric cancer, will gain some inspiration in their journey with this disease by seeing and learning about our special canines who have gone through many of the same treatments for their cancer. |

| While helping my beloved dog Lucy fight osteosarcoma, I created the 2005 Brave Spirits calendar featuring dogs with osteosarcoma who had undergone limb amputation. My hope was that caretakers facing the decision of amputation as part of the treatment for osteosarcoma would gain peace of mind knowing that most dogs can and do overcome the loss of a limb with great success and that no matter what form of cancer treatment is chosen beyond amputation, there are no wrong choices when you follow your heart and are at peace with your decisions. I donated part of the 2005 calendar's proceeds to the Magic Bullet Fund to help others caring for dogs with cancer and part of the proceeds were donated to help cover Lucy's cancer care costs. I am honored that Brave Spirits will continue to help others through the Magic Bullet Fund. The 2007 version of the calendar will bring hope and comfort to those caring for dogs with various canine cancer and will help all dog guardians better protect their companions. |
